How does Standby Mode work?

Like most modern Smart TVs, ENGLAON TVs do not completely power off when placed into Standby Mode. Instead, the TV enters a low-power standby state.

In this mode, some internal circuits may remain powered so the TV can support functions such as:

• Receiving the remote control power-on signal
• Google TV standby functions
• Wi-Fi or network standby features
• HDMI-CEC device communication and auto power-on functions
• Internal power management
• Standby operation for models with a built-in DVD function

This means Standby Mode is not the same as fully disconnecting the TV from power.

Why can a DVD TV make a sound in Standby Mode?

A TV with a built-in DVD player includes mechanical components inside the DVD mechanism. Even when the TV screen is off, the DVD section may still remain in a low-power standby state.

From time to time, the DVD mechanism may perform a brief internal check, such as checking whether a disc is present or confirming the position of its internal mechanism.

This may create:

• A light motor sound
• A brief disc detection sound
• A short spinning or positioning sound

This can happen even when there is no disc inserted.

This does not mean the TV is playing a DVD or operating in full power mode. It is related to the low-power standby behaviour of the built-in DVD mechanism.

If the DVD function works normally, this does not usually indicate a fault with the TV or DVD mechanism.

How can I stop the sound completely?

Standby Mode does not fully remove power from the TV. If you prefer complete silence, the TV needs to be fully disconnected from power when it is not in use.

You can do this by:

• Switching off 、 Unplugging the power adaptor from the wall outlet; or
• Disconnecting the DC power input from the TV.

Once the TV is fully disconnected from power, the DVD mechanism will no longer receive standby power.
