Connected to Wi-Fi, but still report no internet connectionUpdated a day ago

Connecting to public Wi-Fi network?

In some cases, your ENGLAON Google TV may show “Connected to Wi-Fi”, but streaming apps such as YouTube still report no internet connection.

The most common cause is when the TV is connected to a public Wi-Fi network that requires accepting Terms & Conditions (Captive Portal login).

Examples include Wi-Fi networks in:

• Caravan parks / Hotels / Airports / Shopping centres / Campgrounds

Why This Happens

Many public Wi-Fi networks require users to accept Terms & Conditions in a browser window before full internet access is granted. As a result Streaming apps cannot connect and show network errors.

Google TV devices do not always automatically display captive portal login pages. As a result, the TV may appear connected to Wi-Fi but cannot access the internet.

Please note that this behaviour is related to how public Wi-Fi networks operate and is not related to the quality or performance of the TV itself.

Solutions

Solution 1: Use Your Phone Hotspot or Starlink (Recommended)

Public Wi-Fi networks are often less secure and less stable than private connections.

Using your mobile hotspot or Starlink connection is usually the simplest option and provides:

• more stable internet
 • better privacy and security
 • faster setup without login pages

Solution 2: Install a Browser App to Complete the Wi-Fi Login

Important Note

This method may require several attempts. If the captive portal login page does not appear immediately, simply repeat the process until the login page is displayed.

Please also note that some public Wi-Fi networks require periodic re-authentication, which means the login process may need to be repeated every 1–2 hours depending on the network provider's settings.

Please follow below steps to install a browser app to your Smart TV

Steps

  1. Connect your Google TV to your phone hotspot temporarily
This allows the TV to access the internet so you can install a browser.
  2. Open the Google Play Store on the TV
  3. Search for and install a browser app
  4. Disconnect the hotspot and connect the TV to the public Wi-Fi network
  5. Open the browser app
  6. In the browser address bar, enter any simple HTTP website such asneverssl.com
  7. Accept the Terms & Conditions . Once the login page appears, follow the instructions and accept the network agreement.

Once the login is completed, the internet connection should start working normally, and streaming apps such as YouTube or Netflix should be able to access the internet.

Summary

ENGLAON Smart TVs can connect to public Wi-Fi networks, but this is not always recommended.

For the best stability, security, and viewing experience, we strongly recommend using your mobile phone hotspot, or a private internet connection such as Starlink
